Orange County is the third largest county in the state, sixth largest in the United States with a population of a little over 3 million people while consisting of one of the smallest land areas. Situated between Los Angeles and San Diego counties along the coast, Orange County is famous for its world class beaches and meditteranean climate.
Orange County has some of the most popular tourist attractions such as Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. Orange County does not have a major downtown city, but major business hubs include Irvine Business Center, South Coast Metro and Newport Center. Orange County has two professional sports teams, the NHL’s Anaheim Mighty Ducks and MLB’s Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. There are also major shopping and entertainment centers including South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Fashion Island in Newport Beach, Irvine Spectrum, and the Shops at Mission Viejo. Hotels and lodging are abound from the beach communities to the business centers and major theme parks.
Orange County consists of 34 incorporated communities and 14 unincorporated ones, the newest ones being Ladera Ranch and Rancho Mission Viejo, both beautiful master-planned communities with a small community feel in South Orange County. Orange County can be divided into two areas respectively, North Orange County and South Orange County.
This community guide focuses on South Orange County, which can be defined as all communities south of the 55 Freeway, though geographically this is not defined. South Orange County real estate tends to be newer and more expensive as the development has expanded south over time.
